For two decades, Reverend James Okalo Ekwang has been the heart and hands of Children of the Nations-Uganda (COTN-Uganda), serving as the first and only Country Director with unwavering faith and a mantra that inspired us all: “Love Jesus, own COTN.” This June, he officially stepped down from his role, marking the end of an era defined by transformed lives and God’s boundless love.
In his own words:
“To my COTN family, founders, staff, children, partners, donors, and friends!
Wow!
The first leg of my major life assignment as Country Director of COTN-Uganda is officially ending! I handed over the mantle of 20 years (mine started in 2005 when the burden for orphaned and destitute children hit me and I met Papa Chris for the first time in that regard) of leadership this past Friday the 20th June 2025.
Through COTN, I have grown in every way, seen and shared love like never before, and presided over and witnessed the transformation of children incredibly. It has been a journey of miracles, observing the mysteries of God’s love through his people, the sponsors. I am forever grateful to all of you.”
Reverend James’s legacy is etched in the thousands of children who found hope through his guidance. While he now turns his full-time focus to church and evangelism, he will remain available in other capacities as his spirit remains woven into COTN-Uganda’s ministry.
A New Chapter Begins
Stepping into the role of Country Director is Reverend David Otto Ekwang, Reverend James’s brother—a leader rooted in the same faith, love, and commitment to COTN-Uganda’s children. The transition is a testament to Children of the Nations’ mission: raising children who transform nations.
Reverend James leaves us with this blessing:
“The Lord who has guided, guarded, and prospered us will continue to do more as you all drive COTN to the next glorious levels in Christ’s Name!”
Stay tuned for a special message from Reverend David as he shares his heart for COTN’s future.
