For two decades, Reverend James Okalo Ekwang served as the heart and hands of Children of the Nations-Uganda (COTN-Uganda), embodying a legacy of faith with his rallying cry: “Love Jesus, own COTN.” As Rev. James transitions into full-time ministry, we witness God’s faithfulness in raising up another servant-leader—his brother, Reverend David Otto Ekwang—to take the lead as COTN-Uganda’s Country Director.

A Life Prepared for This Moment

Born in Kole district and called to ministry as a teenager in 1992, Rev. David’s journey has been marked by a relentless pursuit of God’s heart for the vulnerable. With over 30 years of pastoral experience—from youth leadership to his ordination as a Reverend in 2023—Rev. David’s life echoes COTN’s mission. His service with COTN-Uganda includes roles as Director of Administration, Education Director, and Venture Director, which has uniquely equipped him to step into the role of Country Director.

A lifelong scholar, Rev. David holds advanced degrees in Public Administration and Community Development and is currently pursuing a Master of Biblical Studies. Yet his greatest credentials are his shepherd’s heart and his commitment to family: married to Claudia Apio, he is a father to four children—biological daughter Precious Tali and three adopted children, living out COTN’s vision of love in action.

A Vision Rooted in Excellence

Rev. David’s leadership vision for COTN-Uganda is both strategic and Spirit-led:

“As the Executive Director of COTNUG, my vision is to propel the organization towards excellence, focusing on staff development, child empowerment, infrastructural growth, institutional excellence and Sustainability. This comprehensive approach will aim at making COTNUG a beacon of hope and a model for effective child development and community empowerment in Uganda.”

This seamless transition, bathed in prayer and brotherly discernment, ensures that the children of COTN-Uganda will continue to thrive under leadership that knows their names, their needs, and their potential.
