As the children in our programs grow, we face the increasing challenge of seeing that they are given every opportunity to become leaders who will transform their nations. In Malawi, we clearly see this challenge in the need to continue our children’s education. Constructing a secondary school is a key part of meeting this challenge. By 2014, we will need a school suited for 300 children. By 2015, we aim to accommodate up to 500 children.

In Malawi, all children take an exam at the end of middle school. The highest scorers are secured a place in government schools and their education is subsidized. The rest are assigned to private or boarding schools, which cost tuition. Construction of our own school will save about $80,000 per year on boarding school expenses for our children. Our secondary school will also be able to generate revenue by opening its doors to students outside of COTN’s programs, who will pay tuition.

It is not only more cost effective to have our own COTN secondary school, but it also allows us to ensure a quality education with high learning standards.

PHASE II will provide funding for two science classrooms and science equipment, a girls’ dormitory, two restrooms, completion of the perimeter wall.
