The two COTN medical teams split up again today to help in a couple different areas. The majority of the team from New England stayed at the COTN medical clinic here in Barahona to care for the eleven children who were brought into COTN’s care a few days ago. The team from Arizona hopped on the COTN bus and made their way up to Jimani where they helped transport more patients whom doctors had deemed stable enough to go to another location where they could be monitored by medical staff. The team helped patients load into the bus and made sure they were settled at the Love a Child ministry site, just over the border in Haiti, where the UN has set up a refuge site. The team also brought some Haitians from the Love a Child site to a more official refuge camp that is being set up by the UN. Some of the Arizona team actually drove into Port-au-Prince, Haiti in search of a specific orphanage that is in desperate need of food. They were able to gather information about what the needs are and will be trying to help in the next few days.

With two COTN medical teams here in Barahona, people were able to break off and do a couple of different things throughout the day, serving in all areas.

After many changes and transportation issues, the incredible amount of medical supplies, that were gathered and collected by the medical team from New Hampshire, arrived yesterday at Barahona's airport—including a much-needed X-ray machine. Some members of the teams helped unload these many donations into COTN's storage area near the medical clinic in Barahona.

Other doctors and nurses worked their shifts at the medical clinic, caring for the 11 children who arrived two days ago from Jimani. Another group broke off and went to a local hospital here in Barahona that also is caring for earthquake victims whom they have operated on.

Through a connection with COTN–DR staff member Malou Faublas, the local hospital asked for the help and advice of the orthopedic surgeons who were working with COTN yesterday. The doctors made rounds at the Barahona hospital and even visited more rural areas, which are serving as make-shift clinics in association with the hospital. At one of the rural clinics, the COTN doctors identified a boy who needed urgent care—they were able to get him to the right place so he will not lose his leg.

Overall, yesterday was a good and productive day here in the Dominican Republic as more COTN medical teams continue to serve the Haitians who are in need of such help.
