It only took one day to drill, but it’s made the difference of a lifetime.
The new well at COTN's Uganda Children’s Village near Lira, Uganda was drilled and completed this past September, before the children moved into the homes.
“This is a dream come true for us, and the village,” said Pastor James Okalo, COTN–Uganda Country Director.
Situated amidst the new children's homes, the well serves as a gathering place for the children as they pump water—one of their chores—for bathing, washing, cooking, drinking and laundry each day.
“It's fun [for the children] when pumping,” Pastor James said. “And they can easily access the well.”
Necessary for providing safe and clean water for the Uganda Children’s Village, drilling the well was an essential part of the preparation process before the children moved in last November. Instead of having to purchase tap water in large jugs and pay to transport it back to the COTN property, the well provides all the water the children and staff need. “Borehole water is safe for drinking even without boiling!” Pastor James said.
The staff also takes ownership over the well and the safe water it brings. According to Pastor James, they are even able to share some of the water supply with the nearby community. “The kids feel blessed to share their water with other community children,” he said.
Phase II of our Uganda Children's Village is currently underway. Funding is needed! Click here for more information.
