Sponsors Needed for the Dominican Republic

We are excited to report the Children of the Nations’ (COTN) Dominican Republic programs are excelling and increasing. COTN began in the Dominican Republic (DR) in 1997 with one missionary, Malou Faublas, and 37 children holding school sessions in a dilapidated hut. Today, we have over 760 children enrolled in our five beautiful grade schools and 235 enrolled in our skills center.

While we are excited about the growth of the program, this comes with an increased price tag for salaries, supplies, and supplemental education. In addition, over the last three years there has been a decrease in monetary values (the US dollar to Dominican peso exchange rate). And more recently, the Dominican government has mandated an increase in all salaries by 15%.

Currently, children enrolled in our Village Partnership Program only have one sponsor (unlike children in our full-care orphan homes, which require three sponsors to fully fund their care). For the past twelve months we have prayed over the idea of double-sponsoring each child in the DR to allow us to adequately provide for our children. We have concluded that double-sponsorship is in the best interest of our children in the DR to further the development of the DR programs and ensure them success.

The support of sponsors has made an incredible difference in the lives of these children—we are so grateful for this partnership. If you are interested in sponsoring a child click here. (Our goal is to have a second sponsor for each child by the end of October.)

Together, we are closer to realizing the vision of seeing the DR transformed through our children.

For the Children,
