Community Development

“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will never be hungry again.”

COTN desires to come alongside orphans, widows/caregivers and otherwise destitute peoples in ways that enable them to be providers in their own communities. While the most vulnerable of orphan children are brought into our residential care, the vast majority of orphan/destitute children can be cared for within their own villages. Capable adults surround many children that are left as orphans, but these adults cannot afford to provide the basics of care (i.e. food, education, medical attention).

COTN community development comes alongside these family groups and empowers them with a “day-care” like program called our Village Assistance Centers. Not only are their burdens lifted in a practical way, but they are given the opportunity to learn a skill that will provide funding for their family group thus giving them the tools to care for their own.
