Uganda Children's Village
Lira, Uganda
Our Uganda Children's Village is home to 58 children ranging in age from 3 to 18. The children are cared for by a resident house mother who is assisted by “aunties” and “uncles” in each home. All of the children in COTN's children's homes receive holistic care that focuses on mental, physical, spiritual, and social needs.
Phase II of our Uganda Children's Village development, which began in early 2010, includes construction of additional children's homes and school buildings, and purchasing additional land and vehicles.

History
Children of the Nations opened the doors to its temporary Lira Children's Home in the fall of 2007. Located in a residential area, this rented home welcomed 29 orphans into full-time residential care. After working with social services and following countless counseling sessions, these children, many orphaned and traumatized during the long-running rebel war, were considered the worst-of-the-worst cases. For most, immediate intervention was a must.
For the next two years, our Lira Children's Home proved to be a safe haven for these precious children, providing them with holistic care. They were returned to full health, started attending school, and continued to receive trauma counseling and medical care as needed, but most importantly they felt loved.
In early 2009, Children of the Nations staff held a dedication ceremony at the site of our future Uganda Children's Village in Lira, breaking ground shortly thereafter. Construction of Phase I—which includes the first seven full-care residential Children's Homes—was completed in Fall 2009.
In 2010, we also launched a Village Partnership Program with the nearby village of Anai-Okii, reaching out to the destitute children in the surrounding community.
Future plans for Uganda Children's Village (as funding allows):
Phase II of ministry development, which will include:
- Constructing six additional classrooms (three preschool, three primary school)
- Purchasing additional land (integral to expansion)
- Purchasing additional vehicles
- Constructing fences around the school
- Building a playground and sports field
