Today marks the one-year anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Haiti, killing thousands, displaced hundreds of thousands, and ushered in a sense of hopelessnes to the already impoverished nation. But, today one year later, the global rebuilding and outreach efforts continue.
In December 2010, Children of the Nations (COTN) offcially announced that an official non-governmental organization (NGO) will be created in Haiti. This effort is being spearheaded by our country director in the Dominican Republic with the support of USA missionary Malou Faublas.
Today, one year after the earthquake, the ministry of COTN continues. Twelve of the thirteen Haitian families originally taken into care at our medical clinic in the Dominican Republic have all returned to Haiti and are doing well. (One family has found employement and settled in the Dominican Republic and continues to receive medical care at our clinic in Barahona.) These twelve families have been protected from the cholera outbreak, many have received prosthetics and continued physical therapy, and have begun to rebuild their lives thanks to support from our Dominican staff, professionals such as Vicki Sakata (Seattle, WA) who is presently in the Dominican Republic, and the generous outpouring of support from our US partners. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of medical, food, and hygiene supplies have been delivered to families and partnering medical clinics.
We continue to identify a location for our ministry site and initial Village Partnership Programs. You can partner with us in this effort by helping fund Haiti - Phase I.
