Today, one out of every four African children does not go to school; less than 15 percent of those finish secondary school. In the Dominican Republic, only 50 percent of those children who enroll in primary education complete the first four years; 22 percent finish the full eight-year program of primary education, and a mere 10 percent finish secondary school (9th – 12th grade).
Limited education, or a complete lack thereof, is directly linked to poverty in developing countries. In order to break the cycle of poverty, Children of the Nations places great emphasis on the importance of education in the transformational process. COTN seeks to provide children with every positive opportunity that education can afford. Our goal is to educate children in order to equip and empower them to become the leaders of tomorrow. We will accomplish this goal by providing three necessary components:
- Accessibility – to ensure quality education (Preschool – University) is accessible to all children enrolled in Children of the Nations programs
- World-class learning standards – providing the best education possible
- Well prepared teachers – by supporting teachers through training and mentoring
