Chiwengo Children's Homes

Kasungu, Malawi

Originally built for the family and friends of a past president of Malawi, Chiwengo Village is a Western-style neighborhood complete with paved roads and Western-style houses, both of which are uncommon for this area of Malawi.  It is located about an hour and a half from Lilongwe.

Today, ownership and management of Chiwengo Village has defaulted to the government with various properties available for rent.  Currently, Children of the Nations rents seven homes within this community—six for use as Children’s Homes and one as a guest house for visiting Venture Program participants.

Our Chiwengo Children’s Homes provide full-time residential care to nearly 100 orphaned children who came to us in desperate circumstances, many of them close to death.  Our children’s homes provide a family-style environment complete with house parents, siblings, and all that comes with being part of a family.  Through our Sponsorship Program, children in our Chiwengo Children’s Home receive holistic care including education and medical care.

Each of the Chiwengo Children’s Homes bears a unique name—carrying the values we hope to impart on the children who live there:  House of Hope, House of Love, House of Joy, House of Power (teen boys home), and House of Purity (teen girls home).
