Mosenesi
Lower Banta, Sierra Leone
Seven miles away from our Banta Ministry Center is Mosenesi Junction, a relatively busy village where roads from several of the main towns in the area and from the main bauxite mining site converge. Mosenesi Junction is in the Lower Banta Chiefdom, Moyamba District in southern Sierra Leone, which is about two hundred kilometers (an eight-hour drive) from the capital city of Freetown.
About 700 people live in Mosenesi Junction. The population is approximately 85 percent Muslim with the majority working as subsistence farmers. A sizable number of the community is either directly or indirectly employed by the bauxite mine in the area. Mosenesi is a Muslim-dominated village and African traditional practices are in a high prevalence. There is also a Christian presence there which dates back before Children of the Nations came to the area; our Church of the Nations is not the only Christian church in Mosenesi Junction.
In 2006, shortly after Children of the Nations made its move to Banta, a Sierra Leone staff member, the late Pastor Sorie Morrah (1976 – 2007), began an evangelistic outreach to Mosenesi Junction. Pastor Sorie built up a small congregation but there was no church building for them to use. Our Sierra Leone Country Director approached the paramount chief of Lower Banta with money to purchase land and plans to subsequently build a church. However, the chief refused to accept the money, preferring instead to give the land to Children of the Nations as a gift. In 2007 a church building was erected which doubled as a nursery school building. A portion of the land was used for some small scale agriculture projects. When some of the children who had previously been enrolled in the Ngolala Village Partership Program moved to Mosenesi due to various family and transportation issues, Children of the Nations officially launched the Mosenesi Village Partnership Program.

Improvements to the community since the Village Partnership Program began
Children of the Nations has been able to provide quality and affordable preschool education in an area where this was not previously available.
Establishment of the Mosenesi program has allowed us to continue working with the children previously enrolled in our Ngolala program who were forced to relocate to Mosenesi for various family and transportation reasons, allowing these children to continue to benefit despite the changing circumstances. As our children have grown, our school has expanded to accomdate them. Our school in Mosenesi now has classes from Grade 1 – 6.
The vibrant church community in Mosenesi Junction is very conducive to spreading the Gospel in this area.
Future plans for the Mosenesi Village Partnership (as funding allows):
- Establishment of a feeding program, providing lunch every day for the children in our school
- Construction of a better school building to serve our nursery and primary students for years to come
- Secondary school bus service to give all our children access to a good education
