Provision Distribution
a component of our Village Partnership Program
(View our Currently Needed Resources List now.)
When beginning ministry in a new community, Children of the Nations focuses its initial efforts on assessing and providing for the most urgent needs of the children. In most cases, in destitute communities, the number one most urgent need is for basic necessities—namely food and clothing. Initial provision distribution includes:
Food – Pre-packaged meals supplied through our COTN–USA Feeding Program’s food-packaging events are distributed directly to the hands of children, ensuring they will personally receive the nutritional benefit.
Blankets and Clothing – Protection from the elements is a person’s first defense against illness and disease. Blankets and clothing, collected through our US Resource department and shipped overseas, provide our children with warmth and protection.
Shoes – Footwear, which is often considered a luxury in developing countries, is in reality, a necessity. In developing nations, the feet are the most vulnerable part of the body, most susceptible to injury and infection. Many varieties of bacteria, parasites, and worm larvae live in the soil or are present in rural areas contaminated by animal or human feces. Such parasites can enter the body through the soles of exposed feet or toenails. Children who do not have shoes are highly susceptible to infection. They are also at high risk of having small cuts or abrasions turn into infected, ulcerated wounds, which if left untreated can become life-threatening.
Soap – Considered one of the most basic commodities in the world, in developing countries soap is a highly-prized possession—so much so, that next to money and food, it is the most requested form of payment for labor.
