Banta Children's Village

Banta Mokelleh, Sierra Leone

Our Banta Children’s Village was designed to incorporate two things that are highly valued in African culture—family and community.  Consisting of a cluster of ten Children's Homes, our Banta Children’s Village is located behind our Banta Ministry Center in Banta Mokelleh.  It is currently home to 98 orphaned children in our full-time residential care.

Our Banta Children’s Village in Sierra Leone is situated on the same property as our Banta Ministry Center in close proximity to our school facilities, our medical clinic, and our administrative offices.  It is also located near the village of Ngolala (a village of 1,500 that Children of the Nations partners with through our Village Partnership Program), which allows our children daily interaction with local children and culture.

Our Banta Children’s Village was born out of a desire to provide our children in Sierra Leone with a more traditional, spacious African environment in which to grow up.  Construction of the Banta Children’s Homes was completed in late 2007 and it was at this time that the children in our full-time care (who up until that time resided in our Marjay Town Children’s Home, a more traditional orphanage-style home located on the outskirts of Freetown) were relocated.
