Martha lives with her widowed mother and two brothers in the village of Mgwayi. Martha is living in very poor conditions where she lacks sufficient food, clothing and other basic needs.

Martha is described as a cooperative, friendly and honest, young girl. She likes to play netball and tag with her friends. Martha’s favorite color is green and her favorite subject in school is math. When she grows up, Martha hopes to be a teacher. Martha helps out in her home by cleaning, washing the dishes and carrying water to the home.
